We clearly love Longhorn Steakhouse here at Simply Side Dishes, and today we’re bringing another copycat of one of their popular side dishes – rice pilaf.
This rice pilaf is cooked until fluffy and then pan fried for some added crunch. We love the addition of the finely diced red peppers – and the flavor is fabulous!
What is Rice Pilaf?
Longhorn Steakhouse Rice Pilaf is a delicious blend of seasonings and chicken broth.
The main difference between “rice” and “rice pilaf” is the cooking technique.
Rice is typically cooked in boiling water without any flavorings added. Rice Pilaf, by definition, is sautéed with different blends of seasoning before cooking.
What kind of rice can I use for Rice Pilaf?
Your best choice would be long-grain rice. It is a mild flavored rice that is perfect for all kinds of seasoning.
What seasoning can I use for Rice Pilaf?
You can use many different seasonings for rice pilaf. However, if you are wanting it to taste most like Longhorn Steakhouse we would suggests using the ingredients and spices listed below.
Do I have to use chicken broth to make rice pilaf?
While chicken broth is preferred you could also use vegetable or beef broth for making this recipe.

Ingredients
1.5 cups dry white rice
2 cups chicken broth
2 tablespoons Olive or Avocado Oil
1/4 cup finely diced red pepper
2 tablespoon finely disced onion
1 Tablespoon parsley
Salt and pepper, to taste

- Cook rice using desired method but use chicken broth instead of water.
2. Cover the bottom of a skillet with about 2 tablespoons of cooking oil.
3. Add the red pepper and onion and pan fry until they are nice and shriveled (about 10 minutes).
4. Add the cook riced and fry with the red peppers and onion. Add more oil if necessary.
5. Add parsley, and salt and pepper to taste, and cook for a minute or two longer.

Is rice pilaf good for you?
Rice has been found to be very easy to digest. It is low in fat, low in cholesterol, high in starch, and has a high nutritional content. Brown rice has a lower carb content than white rice.
Can I freeze rice pilaf?
You can! Like any rice you want to squeeze as much excess water out of the rice before storing in an airtight container.
We recommend eating within 3 months. To reheat let the rice thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then reheat in the microwave or stove.

Loved how the rice turned out! I have been looking for the Longhorn Steakhouse inspired Brussels sprouts recipe. I had them last year while visiting friends in Texas. Unfortunately we don’t have a Longhorn in California but I loved their brussel sprouts They were a spicy sweet
