For Brussels Sprouts

  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp olive oil

For Suace

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1.5 tsp ground ginger
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Crispy onion strips

Instructions

I recommend making the sauce a few hours before you make your Brussels sprouts, if possible. If you can’t, make the sauce first and put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes to allow it to thicken.

  1. Combine sauce ingredients in a saucepan and cook until you bring it to a boil.
  2. Stir constantly for a few minutes and remove from heat – let cool completely at room temperature (unless using the quick method recommended above)
  3. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  4. Wash Brussels sprouts and cut them in half – pat dry
  5. Melt butter and olive oil together and combine with salt and pepper
  6. Toss with Brussels sprouts in a bowl and place on a baking sheet
  7. Roast for 35-40 minutes until crispy. Toss partway through.
  8. Combine Brussels sprouts with the crispy onion strips and toss everything with the sauce.
  9. Serve immediately

Tips for Making Red Lobster Crispy Brussels Sprouts

Choose firm, fresh Brussels sprouts. Look for ones with tightly packed leaves and vibrant green color. Avoid sprouts that are yellowing or have soft spots. Pat the Brussels sprouts completely dry before cooking. Excess moisture can prevent them from getting crispy.

Ensure an even coating of oil on the Brussels sprouts. Toss them in oil and seasonings in a bowl to make sure each piece is coated.  If roasting, stir or flip the Brussels sprouts halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning on all sides.  Brussels sprouts are at their crispiest when served right out of the oven. Delaying service can result in some loss of crispness.

How to Trim Brussels Sprouts

Trimming Brussels sprouts involves removing any discolored or damaged outer leaves and cutting a small portion off the stem end.

Place a Brussels sprout on the cutting board with the stem end facing down.

Using a sharp knife, cut a small portion (about 1/4 inch or less) from the stem end. This helps remove any dried or damaged parts and creates a flat surface for stability.

Depending on your recipe or preference, you can leave the Brussels sprouts whole or cut them in half or quarters. This can help them cook more evenly and absorb flavors if you’re roasting or sautéing them. Inspect each Brussels sprout for any remaining blemishes, and trim as needed. If you see any tough or discolored areas, simply cut them away. Rinse the trimmed Brussels sprouts under cold running water to remove any loose leaves or debris. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel.

My brussel sprouts are burning, what should I do?

If your brussel sprouts are burning, lower the oven temperature and cook for a shorter amount of time. You could also try covering them with foil to help prevent further burning.

Keep in mind that Brussel sprouts will look pretty dark when roasted, so they very likely may not be burning!

Why are my brussel sprouts mushy?

Brussel sprouts can become mushy if they are overcooked. Be sure to watch them closely while they are roasting and remove them from the oven as soon as they are crispy. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving to help them firm up.

My sauce is too thick, what can I do?

If your sauce is too thick, you can add a little bit of water or chicken broth to thin it out. Start with a tablespoon and add more as needed until you reach the desired consistency.
