Instant Pot Chocolate Fondue Recipe
Yes, you can make chocolate fondue in the Instant Pot! This is the easiest method for making chocolate fondue – you’ll never go back to other methods. This recipe is specifically a copycat of The Melting Pot.
I debated whether or not I should share this recipe here since I’m not sure everyone would consider chocolate fondue a side dish.
But since it’s my website, I decided that it is. I mean, so often I get full at dinner time that I don’t end up eating (or wanting) dessert – so why not serve it alongside your meal?!
I love fondue. We went to The Melting Pot for the first time a few years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
However, I don’t love making it. It’s always a bit of pain to get out our fondue set, and I’m never a fan of cooking it on the stove.
So I thought it would be fun to experiment with this in the Instant Pot. It seemed like a simple way to make fondue – and also keep it warm.
I decided to try and make a copycat version of The Melting Pot, and I think it turned out well. This is what my son, Jack, said:
“It tastes like the kind at The Melting Pot. Not better. Not worse. Just exactly the same!”
Just what I was going for.
I will say – having GOOD quality chocolate makes a difference. We got Godiva milk chocolate for this, and after I ate a couple of chips, I thought to myself, “Well, I’ve been missing out buying the cheap chocolate chips!”
You can make this super fast, and it’s absolutely delicious.
Why Make Fondue in the Instant Pot?
I know I’ll get people saying, “Why do you have to make EVERYTHING in the Instant Pot?”
And here’s the good news – you totally don’t have to! But isn’t it nice to have options?
There are a few things I really like about making this in the Instant Pot:
- No watching and standing over the stove – you just put the ingredients in a bowl in the Instant Pot, set the timer, and then stir when it’s done. Voila!
- If you keep the Instant Pot on warm, it should keep the chocolate warm. You can definitely take the chocolate out of the pot, and it doesn’t harden up or anything. But if you want to keep it pretty warm, you can keep it in the Instant Pot!
- It tastes delicious. I mean, this recipe would taste delicious no matter how you prepared it…but I just always think there’s something a *little* more special about using the Instant Pot.
Chocolate Fondue Dippers Ideas
Chocolate fondue can be made with any number of dippers:
- Bananas
- Strawberries
- Orange slices
- Grapes
- Mini cookies
- Marshmallows
- Cinnamon Bears
- Poundcake
- Pretzels
- Vanilla wafers
- Cream puffs
- Apples
- Rice Krispie treats
- Graham crackers
Remember to have the items above be in bite-sized pieces!
I would also recommend buying some fondue sticks to make dipping even easier! You can get them for a pretty good price on Amazon.
What are some substitutions for this recipe?
This recipe calls for milk chocolate chips, heavy cream, and peanut butter. I only can troubleshoot if those are the ingredients you use!
With that said, I am sure you could substitute the milk chocolate with whatever kind of chocolate you’d like. I think semi-sweet would work well.
You can certainly omit the peanut butter if you don’t like it/can’t eat it. I think it adds a lot of yummy flavor, but I know a lot of people aren’t able to eat it.
I’ve seen some fondue recipes that just whole milk instead of heavy cream, so that’s something you could try as well.
Melting Pot Chocolate Fondue
Supplies
- Instant Pot
- Trivet
- Instant Pot safe bowl (I always use my Pyrex bowls)
- Tinfoil
Ingredients
- 10 ounces milk chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter
- 8 ounces heavy cream
- Pour 2 cups of water into the bottom of your Instant Pot liner.
- Place the trivet into the pot.
- In a bowl that will fit inside your Instant Pot, add chocolate chips, peanut butter, and heavy cream.
- Stir so everything is covered. Place a piece of tin foil on top of the bowl.
- Place the bowl in Instant Pot and put the lid on top of Instant Pot.
- Set to sealing and then set the Instant Pot to manual high pressure for three minutes.
- When the timer goes off, quick pressure release all the extra pressure.
- The chocolate will look a little odd when you take off the tinfoil – it’s supposed to!
- Just stir around for a little while until everything is combined and it thickens a little bit.
- You can keep it in the Instant Pot to keep it warm, though it may thicken a little more if you remove it for a bit. Up to you!

Does this chocolate harden?
It gets a thicker as it cools, but it’s still delicious and dippable. Forrest and I couldn’t get enough! I don’t think you could really use this for chocolate-covered strawberries or anything where the outer shell needs to be hardened.
Can I reheat chocolate fondue?
You should be able to – you could put it back in the Instant Pot on the trivet and turn it to warm/low saute. Or you could slowly reheat it in the microwave in 15-second intervals.
How can I make this on the stove?
I honestly haven’t made chocolate fondue on the stove, but you certainly can using a double broiler!
What size Instant Pot did you make this in?
I have made this with my 6 and 8 quart – both with great results.
What kind of chocolate chips did you use?
For this recipe, I used Godiva Milk Chocolate (29%). I LOVE the way it turns out with that brand.
Do you use creamy or chunky peanut butter?
I used chunky but you could use whatever you want. I liked the added texture the chunky peanut butter added.
