Ingredients
- 1/4 inch sliced dill pickles
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp basil
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp salt

Can I make the batter ahead of time?
Yes, you can make the batter up to 24 hours in advance. Just store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.
What type of pickles should I use?
We recommend using dill pickles for this recipe. We tried using presliced pickles versus slicing them ourselves, and we found that the hamburger sliced dill pickles worked the best.
Can I use a different kind of flour?
I would recommend sticking with all-purpose flour for the best resorts. You could certainly try another kind, but it would change the taste and overall texture.
How can I make these gluten-free?
If you would like to make these gluten-free, you could use a 1:1 gluten-free flour substitute. It should work fine!
What brand of seasonings do you use?
I use a variety of different seasonings and brands – often Kroger brands. However, these are the two “specialty” brands that I really enjoy:
Salt – I love anything from Redmond Salt. They make the BEST salt around, and they have a few other seasonings as well. I highly recommend stocking up – you can get 10% off with the code CLARKS.
Cajun Seasoning – I am a big fan of Dan-O’s. They offer a few different seasonings, but for this recipe, I would use their “Spicy” seasoning. They are salt-free seasonings but offer a lot of punch. You can save 10% with the code ccsave.
What sauce does Texas Roadhouse serve with their fried pickles?
Texas roadhouse serves their fried pickles with horseradish sauce. You can also request ranch dressing.

In general, fried pickles can be a vegan dish. Just make sure to double-check that the oil that you use is vegan-friendly.
Do I need any special equipment to make these fried pickles?

They won’t be the same, but yes, you could bake these in the oven. I would recommend spraying them with cooking spray and flipping them part way through the cooking process to ensure a crispy and even cooking process.

You can definitely try! I haven’t done this, though, so I can’t provide specific instructions.
