Because it is a chilled dish, it’s so light and refreshing. It’s also very sweet and can be eaten as a way to finish off a meal. At a Halloween party, you’ll likely be serving plenty of other treats and desserts. This will serve best as a side dish that compliments your main foods.

Can You Freeze Jello Salad?
Freezing Jello Salad is tricky. While it can be done, it usually ruins the texture of the gelatin and drastically changes the dessert. This is made even trickier with the gummy worms, which will turn hard if placed in the freezer. Try to make this dish close to when it will be eaten. When not eating, store it in your refrigerator to maintain its proper texture.

Why Jello Salad?
Jello salad has been a crowd favorite since it gained popularity in the 1960s. Jello salad is the perfect way of incorporating Jello mix with fresh fruit—making a side dish that is both refreshing and sweet at the same time. Jello salads do need time to sit in the fridge, but prep time is actually quite minimal. They’re easy to whip up, cool, and serve for lunches, dinners, or parties!
Plus, Jello Salads can easily be dressed up and decorated for just about any holiday. Gummy worms will make for a fun Halloween treat. If you’re a fan of this Jello salad, feel free to add in other mix-ins for coordinating holidays and events.
Why does Jello need to set so long?
The only downside to Jello is that it does take time to set up. In order for the gelatin to become hardened and have the desired consistency, it needs time. The amount of water content, mix amount, and temperature all work together to ensure that Jello does its thing. Letting it sit in the fridge for several hours will allow the Jello to harden properly, giving it that bouncy texture we all love.
