Copycat Chipotle Guacamole Recipe

chipotle guacamole

Chipotle makes some of the best and freshest Tex-Mex food around, and its guacamole is one of the most popular additions to any meal.

We love making fresh guacamole at home, so I thought I’d try their recipe. First, I tested it in person to get a better idea of the flavor profile and texture. Next, I went to Chipotle’s ingredient list and reviewed all the ingredients to see which ones they stated were in their guacamole. Finally, I took that knowledge and my personal experience to create this copycat version – and I think it turned out pretty close! This is perfect for any Mexican or Tex-Mex celebration (such as Cinco de Mayo!)

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 jalapeno, de-seeded and chopped
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (or 1 teaspoon gourmet garden’s cilantro paste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1. Remove the avocado from it’s peel and place it in a bowl. Reserve one avocado pit.

How to keep guacamole from browning

There are few things less appetizing than brown guacamole! Here are a few ways to prevent this from happening with your guacamole:

  • Put the pit of the avocado into the guacamole. This has never failed me!
  • Pat the guacamole down, put a thin layer of lime/lemon juice over this area, cover the dish with plastic wrap (pressing down so it’s flesh with the guacamole), and place in the refrigerator.

How long will this guacamole last for?

Homemade guacamole typically lasts for just 1-2 days in the fridge. You can freeze it for later, though!

Can I add more flavoring?

Of course! You could add some cayenne pepper for more of a kick or some garlic for additional flavor. These are not in Chipotle’s guacamole, but they can still be delicious additions!

What if I don’t have a mashing tool?

That’s not a problem! A fork or spoon should do the trick.
