This dip is perfect for gatherings with friends and family, and it’s bound to be a hit with everyone. Plus, it’s really easy to make – you just need a few simple ingredients. The various cheeses combined with heavy cream, artichoke hearts, and hot spinach are a winning combination that you’ll love.
Forrest and I went to the Cheesecake Factory a few weeks ago for our anniversary. We ordered their spinach and artichoke dip for the first time, which was DELICIOUS. I might even say it’s the best spinach artichoke dip I’ve ever had (and trust me – that’s saying a lot!). The best part of it was how cheesy and flavorful it was! I have made a handful of copycat spinach artichoke dip recipes in my day, and it’s always amazing how different they all can be! This recipe doesn’t have sour cream or cream cheese but uses a heavy creamy base.
I knew I had to come up with a copycat recipe. We made this for Christmas, about 90% similar to the restaurant version. Regardless, it was delicious, and we know it will be popular at all your upcoming events! I hope that you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.
Ingredients
- 1 can artichokes, drained and chopped
- 16 oz frozen spinach, defrosted
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp minced garlic clovers
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt (or as per your taste)
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese
- 1/4 cup shredded parmesan Cheese
- 1/2 Cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (for topping)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Drain excess water from spinach
- In a pan, add 1 tbsp of olive oil.
- Add about 1/2 medium-size diced onion and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Once the onion is softened, add minced garlic
- Turn stove down to medium-low and whisk in heavy cream
- Add in your artichoke and spinach
- Add 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese and 2 tbsp shredded parmesan
- Bring everything to a boil and mix continually until it thickens.
- Transfer to a baking dish and top with mozzarella
- Bake for about 20 minutes – broil if necessary
- Serve immediately with dippers of choice
Recipe Tips and Suggestions:
- This is an excellent dip for all sorts of dippers. Traditionally, Cheesecake Factory serves it with freshly made tortilla chips, which are delicious. However, you can also use wheat crackers, pita chips, or pita bread, or even a variety of fresh vegetables that would pair nicely with it.
- We do not recommend freezing this recipe. The creamy ingredients would likely separate, resulting in a watery, less flavorful dish.
- You can prepare this dish up to 24 hours in advance. If you do this, we recommend storing it in an airtight container and baking it right before you are ready to serve.
- We usually use Kroger or Great Value brand for cheese – feel free to use whatever kind you’d like. Freshly grated will always yield the best results!
- While spinach dip can be served cold, this dish isn’t designed to be eaten without cooking first.
- Add some hot sauce or crushed red pepper flakes
Recipe Modifications and Dietary Comments
- This dip should be naturally gluten-free – however, always double-check the ingredient labels.
- Due to this recipe’s heavy dairy content, it would not be easy to provide any recommendations for making it dairy-free while protecting the original flavor and integrity of the dish.
- To simplify things, you could buy a package of pre-shredded Italian blend cheese instead of the individual packages of mozzarella and parmesan.
- Due to its low-carb content, I would consider this a keto-friendly recipe.
This creamy spinach dip will be a fantastic option for your next game day, family get-together, or potluck recipe. The melted cheese and other flavors blend together perfectly, and it truly feels like you just picked it up from the Cheesecake Factory.

I’m going to try this but use shallots instead of onions. The Cheesecake Factory’s website specifically says shallots are in the mixture.
