Crust

  • 12 graham crackers (or about 2.5 cups of graham cracker crumbs)
  • 6 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 3 cups sweet potatoes, mashed (if you don’t want the pie to be stringy, you should puree the sweet potatoes)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Is the crust gluten-free?

Graham crackers are not traditionally gluten-free. However, if you’d like to use gluten-free graham crackers, you definitely can! The gluten-free option for the crust is to use gluten-free graham crackers.

Can I use pumpkin puree instead of sweet potatoes?

You can also use pumpkin puree instead of sweet potatoes – however, then it would be a pumpkin pie, not a sweet potato pie.

Can I use frozen sweet potato cubes?

Yes, you can! Just make sure to steam them before using them and then mash/puree. They can be a great shortcut for this recipe.

Directions:

Crust:

  1. Preheat oven temperature to 375 degrees
  2. Crush graham crackers into crumbs using a food processor or blender
  3. Mix with butter, sugar, and cinnamon
  4. Press into a pie pan or springform pan and bake for about 7-8 minutes

Sweet Potato Filling:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients together
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together wet ingredients.
  4. Add wet ingredients into dry and combine until smooth – ideally with a hand mixer using medium speed.
  5. Pour into pie crust and bake for 15 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat on the oven to 350 degrees and continue baking for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean and the top is golden brown – total baking time is about 45-60 minutes.

What can I do if I don’t have a springform pan?

If you don’t have a springform pan, you can use a regular pie pan. I just like the way the springform pan makes the pie look.
