Fruit Salad is an easy dish to prepare for any picnic or potluck or BBQ. But if you want to kick it up a notch, fruit salad dressing is a fun addition that all your guests will love.
I have found that adding a dressing to my fruit salad helps bring all the flavors together! It adds a little more sweetness and juice to the fruit and also helps the fruit last longer, too.
Ingredients
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt: any brand will do- just pick your favorite!
- 3 tbsp honey
- 3 tsp lime juice
- 1 tablespoon coconut
Instructions
1. Put yogurt, honey, and lime juice into a bowl
2. Stir until all ingredients are combined.
3. Add coconut flakes and stir gently
4. Put dressing in the fridge to setup for at least one hour (longer is better!)
5. Either pour on your fruit salad and toss or allow guests to spoon the dressing over their fruit
Variations
There are many was you can change up how you make this fruit salad dressing. Here are a few ideas:
- Different flavors of yogurt (I think coconut would be delicious)
- Omit the coconut
- Add vanilla extract
- Lemon juice instead of lime
- Add chia seeds or poppy seeds for added texture
- Use maple syrup or brown sugar instead of honey
- Add cocoa powder
- Add cinnamon and/or nutmeg
Storage Tips
Because of the dairy in this recipe, you need to make sure recipe is stored properly. Here are some best practices to keep in mind:
- Store the homemade fruit dip dressing in an airtight container.
- Place the container in the refrigerator promptly after making the dip.
- Proper refrigeration helps slow down the growth of bacteria and extends the shelf life of the dip.
- Generally, homemade fruit dip dressing can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. However, always use your judgment and check for signs of spoilage such as off odor, mold, or unusual texture before consuming.
Serving Suggestions
This dressing can be poured on top of a fruit salad, or you can prepare it ahead of time and then toss with a fruit salad that you prepare. The value in having it in a container to pour is that people can add whatever level of dressing they want. It also prevents the fruit from getting overly soggy from just sitting out with dressing on it.
I like to put ours in a nice, glass container that you can either pour or use a spoon with.
How to Make a Fruit Salad Dressing Creamy?
To make a creamy fruit dip dressing, you can use ingredients such as yogurt, cream cheese, whipped cream, powdered sugar, or mayonnaise as a base. In this recipe, we chose to use yogurt because of the creamy, light texture.
