This is based off of the original recipe that was created by the Campbell Soup company, and it just takes minutes to throw together!
It can be prepared ahead of time, it reheats beautifully, and really, it’s just the centerpiece of any holiday gathering.

FAQ
Calories in green bean casserole?
If you make the recipe exactly as written, there will be around 211 calories per serving (based on this being an eight serving recipe)
Is green bean casserole supposed to be runny?
A lot of this will depend on the recipe you use, but in general, it shouldn’t be super runny. It’s usually a creamy texture.
Is green bean casserole low carb?
This recipe has about 30 grams of carbs per serving, so no, I wouldn’t consider it a low carb recipe.
You could make it lower carb by using something other than the crispy onion straws on top (though that’s my favorite part). Bacon is popular in this dish, so perhaps topping it with crispy bacon would be an option!
How to thicken green bean casserole?
Thickening will typically happen in the preparation stage of this recipe. If the sauce seems to runny, you can put it on the stovetop and thicken over medium heat – you can consider adding a little bit of cornstarch.
How to reheat green bean casserole
Wrap in tin foil and bake at 375 for about 30 minutes or until bubbly.
How much green bean casserole for …. 15, 30, 50, 100
This would depend on several factors – how many other side dishes are there, are you talking about adults or children, etc.
If we are talking about adults and this is the main side dish, I would plan on about a cup per person. Children would be more around 1/2 cup.
This recipe, based on that measurement, is for about eight servings, so you can figure out the math from there.
Which green beans for green bean casserole?
This recipe uses canned green beans – any brand will do, but I typically use Del Monte.
You can also use homemade green beans – you just need to blanch and chop them before putting them in the recipe.
What cheese for green bean casserole?
This recipe doesn’t have cheese, but I’ve added it before. I usually use shredded cheddar cheese – typically just the store brand (I like Target’s Good and Gather cheese).
What soup for green bean casserole?
Green bean casserole is typically made with cream of mushroom soup. You can buy this in a can, box, or make it homemade.
This recipe was made with the Great Value brand, but I prefer Pacific Foods Organic Cream of Mushroom soup. I usually buy it at Target.
What to serve green bean casserole with?
Green bean casserole is very popular around the holidays, so typical accompanying main dishes are ham or turkey. However, I think it makes for a great side dish to any kind of protein (chicken breast comes to mind as well!).

You sure can. Just cover it with foil or plastic wrap and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.
