Easy Bacon Wrapped Dates – 4 Ways!

Bacon and dates might seem like an unusual combination but believe me when I say it is nothing like you have ever tasted. Also known as Devils on horseback, bacon-wrapped dates are an ideal appetizer or a perfect snack.

I’ll admit that this wasn’t my favorite recipe to develop, but the results were excellent. My husband was an especially big fan.

Dates are one of those foods I think a lot of children turn their noses up at, but as you get older, it seems really elegant – especially when it’s stuffed with something.

Don’t be fooled, though – these are very rich, especially the more stuffed they are.

There are many different ways you can make bacon wrapped dates, and in this post, you will see four different variations. I will rank them starting with the most mild – which is where I’d start if you aren’t familiar with bacon stuffed dates OR you aren’t a fan of fancier cheeses (no shame in that – I’m not):

  • Almond stuffed and brown sugar covered
  • Cream cheese and almond stuffed
  • Goat Cheese
  • Blue Cheese

It is a simple dish with simpler preparation that will make you fall in love with it. It is a pure pleasure and addiction. Stuffing dates with your favorite cheese and wrapped bacon around them – what more could you ask for?

Secure it with a toothpick and pop it in the oven for 15 minutes. The end result will make your mouth salivate, and you won’t be able to resist eating it at all. 

How to Serve Bacon Wrapped Dates?

Since bacon-wrapped dates hold their shape through a toothpick, it is ideal to serve them with the toothpick.

It is either served straight out of the oven or at room temperature. Either way, they will taste delicious, and the toothpick will make it easy to pick up and eat.

What Goes Best With Bacon Wrapped Dates?

Bacon-Wrapped Dates usually work perfectly well as an appetizer and are served before the entrée.

It fits perfectly in any menu. Moreover, you can also serve it as a snack. Pair it up with your favorite drink, or serve it as an appetizer before stuffed chicken or steak as an entrée. It tastes good with everything. 

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pitted dates
  • 1 lb bacon, each slice cut in half

Filling of choice

  • Blue cheese Crumbles
  • Goat cheese (any flavor – we used honey) 
  • Almond and brown sugar (place almond inside the Date. Once wrapped in bacon, cover with brown sugar)
  • Almond and cream cheese

Instructions

  1. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray or line with a silicone baking mat. 
  2. Fill your Date with one of the fillings above. 
  3. Wrap with bacon – if you are using a variation with brown sugar, roll in brown sugar
  4. Place a toothpick through the Date. 
  5. Place on a baking sheet. 
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes; rotates the pan halfway through.

The best thing about Bacon Wrapped Dates is that you can either make it a night before and refrigerate it, or you can even store it in the freezer for as long as a month. Prepare the Bacon Wrapped Dates, stick in the toothpick, and freeze it. So, whenever you feel like eating it, take it out of the freezer and put it in the oven. How convenient!

How can you customize bacon-wrapped dates?

Bacon-Wrapped Date is a fun dish to make, and you can customize it in different ways to add your own flair to the dish. You can use different types of cheese, for instance, cream cheese, blue cheese, and goat cheese.

Furthermore, you can also swap bacon with prosciutto. If you like a colder version, you can skip the baking and wrap the dates up with salami.

Where can I find goat cheese and/or blue cheese?

Both of these foods are readily available at moat grocery stores -some have more variety than others. You typically have to go to their specialty cheese section, which is usually near the deli.
