Candy Corn Jello Salad (perfect for Halloween!)
With Halloween around the corner and Thanksgiving soon after, holiday treats will soon be in full-swing. Jello salad is a great summer dish, so here’s a twist to make it perfect for fall. Candy Corn Jello salad is a decorative and tasty way to enjoy Jello around the holidays!
How to Make Candy Corn Jello Salad
Candy corn is one of those classic fall candies. But it can be controversial. Candy corn is one of those things that you either love or hate. That being said, adding it to Jello salad is something that will be a favorite for those who love it, and may even convert the nay-sayers. I love the texture of this salad because it is so unique. The soft gelatin of the Jello pairs well with the sweet and firmer texture of the candy corn.
Not only that, but it’s a fun way to make dinner or parties more festive. This year in particular, the holidays are one of the few senses of normalcy. Candy corn is perfect because it’s another one of those traditional things that pops up during autumn each year.
Jello salad is a good side dish for dinner or a refreshing dessert to top off a meal. It will give you a kick of sugar but also feel light at the same time! You’ve got to try it.
Is candy corn gluten free?
The good news is yes! Candy corn is free of wheat. That being said, it never hurts to check packaging to see if the candy was manufactured in a facility that processes wheat. Chances are you’ll be fine, but for those with extreme allergies, it’s good to double check.
Is this vegan friendly?
This dish is made of gelatin (both from the Jello and candy corn) which technically does use animals to be made. Gelatin is made from taking water that is boiled with animal bones and hides. This is what helps give it its texture. For those sensitive to that, it’s good to know that this recipe is not vegan.
History of Candy Corn
Candy corn has been around for over 100 years! The beloved candy, as you may have guessed, is pretty high in sugar. Candy corn is born when sugar, gelatin, corn syrup and other ingredients come together. It’s signature look, which mimics that of pieces of corn, has made it widely popular. Particularly in the fall when harvest season is in fall season, many love these sugary pieces of candy corn.

When does candy corn expire?
Not for a while! Candy corn, like many candies, holds a pretty long shelf life. Candy corn, left unopened, is good for upwards of 9 months. Once you’ve opened the bag, it’s best to eat within 3 to 6 months. That being said, many people eat candy corn specifically in fall. If you come across a bag of candy corn from last year, it’s definitely best to toss it and grab a new one from the grocery store. A new bag of candy corn will give you that fresh dose of sugar that you’ll want for the Jello salad (or just to munch on).
Are Jello and gelatin the same thing?
No. While similar, Jello is basically taking gelatin a step further. Jello is the result of boiling gelatin in water, then letting it cool. When gelatin is mixed with water, the reaction gives us that Jello consistency that is perfect for dessert or Jello salad!
